Hi, My husband and I are travelling to Europe this August and we'll be flying into Paris. We plan to tour Paris, England and Scotland, but my husband will be away for a bicycle ride for 4 days in the middle of trip. During this time, I could either spend time somewhere in France that is easily accessible by train or fly to Dublin and spend 4 days there. My question is if flying into Ireland for just 4 days will be worth it. Since I don't plan to rent a car, my guess is that I can only see Dublin. Is there any other place that will be nice in August and accessible by public transport from Paris? Thanks,
Raji.
depending on your personal preferences: you may want to find a three or four day tour from paris; Loire chateux, champagne (now thats a thought) or wherever. Or just indulge yourself i Paris. Thatll be easier than doing flights, immigration, customs, hotels etc on your own
There are day trips out of Dublin offered by several bus companies as well as the train company. Just pick a hotel near either of the main Tourist Information offices where you can book a trip and get picked up easily. I recently stayed at Best Western Premier Academy Plaza, north of the Liffey, but close to TI and to AirCoach stop. August, though, will be very busy tourist season so advanced booking would be needed here or elsewhere. If it were me and I was already in Paris, I would elect to take the train somewhere. Be sure to remember that a large number of Europeans travel in August.
i would go provence based on your proximity. arle, avignon, isla sur la sorgue, etc...maybe even down to villefrance. that being said. went to ireland for two weeks last year. easily could kill two to three days in dublin, with trips to powerscourt, maybe galway, kilkenny which rocks. i could spend years in paris, maybe you can too? have fun, be safe.
The fact that you mention Dublin specifically suggests you have a hankering to go there. Four days is plenty (just about right) for Dublin. And it's an easy flight to/from Paris.
Returned from Dublin 3 wks. ago. Spent 4 days there. You can see all the highlights and then some easily.
Buy a Hop-On Hop-Off bus pass.Best way to see the city.Took a small train up to Malahide Castle, too.
If you really want to go to Dublin (and I'm not saying you shouldn't!), I can also recommend staying at Best Western Premier Academy Plaza. The airlink bus drops you right outside, the hop on/hop off bus stop is right outside, and it is an easy walk to the Temple Bar area. We booked it on Expedia because they had a stay 2 nights, get the 3rd night free deal. Our room was very nice and the cost was reasonable. We found plenty to do in Dublin, and you can do day tours to see other areas. If you don't want to fly somewhere else there are many options within an easy train ride from Paris. Where you go just depends on what you like. As you will be there in August I recommend you make reservations in advance. That is NOT the month to be winging it!! Have fun!!! :-)
Just returned a week ago from a 2 week trip to Ireland, of which we spent 2 days in Dublin. Did a lot in 2 days, but left Dublin feeling a little shorted. We mostly walked since Dublin is a compact city, and public transportation is great...we did both. If I had 4 days, I would have walked to all of the major tourist attractions with the exception of maybe Kilmainham Goal....providing it isn't lashing down rain! Take the bus out to Kilmanham early enough to get in on the first tour, as tickets can and do sell out for limited guided tour sizes. I was skeptical about visiting Dublin...it took me 3 trips to Ireland to finally try it, and for historical reasons alone, it shouldn't be skipped. Just a reminder, if you are there over a weekend that includes Monday, a lot of free exhibits like the National Museums are closed on Monday, so plan carefully.
