Flying into Dublin from York or Liverpool???

My family & I are planning to be in York for two nights and then two nights in Dublin. Is there an airport in York that we could fly directly to Dublin. We also thought of taking a train to Liverpool, spending the day there before heading to Dublin. Any suggestions on what would be more economical and what are our choices as far as transportation. Thanks in advance!

No airport in York. Nearest airport is Leeds/Bradford (Yeadon). It's an hour by road from York. Not too sure about flights from Leeds to Dublin. Probably flights from John Lennon (Liverpool) to Dublin.
Large Irish population in Liverpool.

You might want to consider the ferry. It's probably cheaper and a pretty short trip.

Which ferry would that be? Could I check fares on line & is it better to book ahead? Thanks again!

There is a ferry to Dublin from Holyhead, North Wales. You could either drive from York or take the train. It is always (well, almost always) cheaper when you book well in advance. One trick on ferries is to "hitch hike" in a car. Cars going across can carry 4 passengers without any extra cost. It's a risky way to try to save a little money. If you can't hitch a ride you will pay top dollar for the ferry. I have no idea on the relative costs for any of these options. A "family" can usually travel for less money in a car than a train but check it out. Make sure your car company has a dropoff in Holyhead. Most will. Be sure to check what hours they are open.

It's either going to be StenaLine or IrishFerries. You can hive them both out at once at: directferries.co.uk. I've never seen a ferry sold out for foot passengers, nor have I noticed a price advantage for early booking unless a vehicle were involved.

Betty There is also the Sail & Rail, but that option has 3 train changes from York - Manchester Piccadilly - Crewe - Holyhead. Then the ferry to Dublin. The cost for 2 adults & 2 children is £99.00. Here is a link for you to look over. www.arrivatrainswales.co.uk/SailRail/
