I'm flying into Birmingham, England in July for a festival that my church participates in. The festival is out toward Warwick / Stratford-upon-Avon country. I'm arriving one night early and am looking for a place to stay. Should I stay in Birmingham or find a B&B out in the country (toward Stratford-Upon-Avon / Warwick)?
Assuming you're arriving in the morning, take a train to Stratford and get a B&B there. Look at www.bahn.de for train schedules (shows one from the airport to Stratford departing 10:14 arriving 11:16).
Stratford has a great website showing all of the lodging places in the area, including B&Bs: http://www.stratford-upon-avon.co.uk
Good general advice, Tim. The only small difficulty is that Birmingham International (for the airport) is on a different train line from both Stratford-upon-Avon and Warwick.
To change lines you and your luggage can walk from Birmingham New Street to B. Moor Street, about 5 or more likely 10 minutes walk.
Either way, I agree that both Warwick and Stratford would be really nice.
Here's an idea - - Birmingham International is a relatively small airport with one runway and two terminals, but fully served by all major car rental firms, hotel chains, etc. It is close to a green belt and the wonderful Warwickshire countryside.
How about renting a car at the airport and driving to your destination? Parking in both towns is not easy but your B&B or hotel will have some accomodation of parking and you will be rewarded with freedom and beautiful sights.
You can drive through the countryside or a simple motorway drive.
