Should I do a 6 hour tour that takes in the railway and further trip to Voss OR a bus trip that takes in the amazing view from Stalheim hotel instead-3 hour but no train. I"ve bee on the white horse pass train.
IMHO, whatever you do should somehow include the Flaamsbana rail trip. The scenery and the engineering are both spectacular. Is the six-hour tour your refer to the loop trip that starts in Flaam, goes by bus to Voss by way of Stalheim, then returns by train through Myrdal (the time sounds about right)? I took that tour and highly recommend it.
That sounds great. I'm going on a seabourn shore excursion but it sounds like my one to Voss goes up on the train, then on to Voss by train then by bus back BUT it mentions going in a tunnel under Stalheim so that is what is worrying me. To do a trip to the stalheim Hotel I would have to sacrifice the longer trip from the top of the rail to Voss AND it is all done by bus. Guess I'll have to sacrifice the view for the train and beyond. Thanks for your input.
I also took the loop trip I described in my first answer from a cruise ship during a stopover in Flaam. I am virtually certain that there is no way that a bus driving from Voss back to Flaam can go in a tunnel under the Stalheim hotel. There are two long tunnels on that route, but they are between the Stalheim hotel and Flaam. I'm willing to guess that the bus in fact will go by the Stalheim hotel and will stop there to give you a fantastic view, and that the description in your cruise brochure is not clear on this point. Enjoy the excursion (the rest of the cruise, which is great)!
