Flam to Gudveangen Boat-Do you need to Reserve ahead?

I will doing the Norway in a nutshell route on June 30th. Is it necessary to reserve the boat portion ahead of time? If so, what is the easiest way to do this from the States. Since we are very close to our travel date, waiting for paper tickets to be mailed might not be reliable if this is how they are sent.

I found this website called Fjord1.com and I can view the routes, but does not appear to allow you to book online.

Thanks,
Laura

We did the nutshell almost exactly one year ago. I don't think it is necessary to buy tickets ahead of time. We bought all the tickets-train, ferry-at the train station in Oslo the day before starting the nutshell trip. We traveled Oslo-Myrdal-Flam-Balestrand via express boat (stayed 2 nights which had been arranged from home via telephone)-Gudvangen-Voss-Oslo. See the RS guidebook for info. Fjord1 is a tour company which can be skipped. Telephone the Norwegian railway if you wish to buy tix in advance (47 815 00 888) and see their website (www.nsb.no). Good luck.
