My wife, my six year old daughter and myself will be in London for five days in May. Any suggestions on how to fill our days?
Jarod,
I most definitely agree with Kent on this point. You should be able to pick up a copy of Rick's London book at any of the larger bookstores in your area. If not, just order it from the website.
There is SO MUCH to see and do in London, you'll want to make sure that you plan your touring efficiently so that you don't waste any time!
What to do will likely depend on your interests, keeping in mind that a six year old probably won't have the patience to spend a lot of time in Museums and Galleries. The BA London Eye is something she would probably enjoy. The view from the top is incredible! Is there any chance your daughter might enjoy a musical? There are lots to choose from in London. The Changing of the Guard is quite a spectacle, but it involves a lot of standing in somewhat crowded conditions (if you can get a seat on the monument across the street, it would give your daughter somewhat of an "elevated" position to watch the pageantry).
Happy travels!
You could take her to Hamleys on Regent Street. It's a huge toy store. My dad took my brother there when he was little and he had the best time, and I don't recall whether they ever bought anything. Just the looking around had him mezmerized for hours. Now he can hardly wait now to take his own daughter there.
Hamely's is a must! She will love it. I'd also suggest a day trip to Windsor- you can watch the changing of the guard there- fewer crowds. The castle is one of my favorites and in May their roses should be amazing. There is also a great dollhouse display- craftsmen from all over the country created the miniatures for the Queen Mother (I think).
Pollocks Toy Museum, Goodge St stop on the tube (Central line I think).

Jarod, our youngest was 4 the first time we went and he enjoyed: Hamley's Toys, hands on activities and kids tours at the British Museum, Natural History Museum, Science Museum, Harrods, street acts at Covent Garden, Transport Museum, Cabinet War Room, London Eye, Tower of London, even the theater...to name a few. My kids love it so much that Monday we leave for our sxth visit. Have a great time.
