Fish and Chips in London. Recommendations?
My husband LOVES fish and chips. We often eat at Shakespear's. It is across the street from Victoria Station. They also have good English "pies" such as ham and chicken and shephards' pie.
One place I recall was a joint called the Freshly Maid, on the Lower Marsh Road (site of the market) near Waterloo Station. You get a heap of cod and chips in the ubiquitous waxed paper cone - take it and have a nice meal close by on the Thames. Don't know if the place still exists, but it was a cheap little place for fish and chips, burgers and fries, etc.
I wanted to see New Scotland Yard, and I figured that a cop would know the best place and was right.
The only trouble was that I can't remember the street. The told me to go up 2 streets with my back to their building and then go right and it is down about a 100 feet. The street was closed off for vendors. Hope it helps, but the fish and chips were really GREAT.
