Hi, we will be visiting London next month and want to try fish and chips. We'll be near Covent Garden. Anyone have a good experience with a fish and chips restaurant there? Or anywhere? We appreciate any information you can share! Thanks very much, Sue and Bill
We enjoyed our fish and chips at the Sherlock Holmes Pub which is in that area and also convenient for going to the theatre. The pub also has a fun little museum display (on the second floor)which is a recreation of Holmes' digs on Baker Street. Although this pub is in many tour books it also attracts a local crowd......You can get fish and chips at loads of pubs in London.
I echo that - good fish 'n' ships are widely available at many, many pubs! Here's a list near Covent Garden: http://www.coventgardenlondonuk.com/eating-drinking/bars-pubs-clubs/pubs/page/1 Oddly, Rock & Sole Plaice (47 Endell Street) isn't on that list. It gets great reviews on Yelp. Also oddly, I swear by the fish 'n' chips at Brogan's, an Irish pub over by Stamford Bridge Stadium... not at all close to Covent Garden. :-(
hi, so far, every pub (2 of them) ive had fish'n'chips, i was happy with what i received. the fish was a "slab" of fish about the size of a service plate too, not small pieces and it was fresh and cooked just right even though it was a slab. happy trails.
If you're near Victoria Station for some other reason visit the St. Geroge's Tavern. In March I had the fish and chips in their downstairs restaruant and loved it. Also the sherry trifle was to die for. http://www.nicholsonspubs.co.uk/thestgeorgestavernvictorialondon/ Have a treat trip!
Hi, If you are heading in to town Golden Union is great just off Oxford street so good if you're shopping .38 Poland Street . Kx
Yes, I was shocked upon receiving my first order of fish and chips to be served a half a fish. So good...and don't forget the mushy peas!! Can't wait to be back in London this June.
Thanks for all the great suggestions! Happy traveling to all! Sue
