Ferry to Inishmore + area accommodations

Ok... have yet another question (this site is so informative... many thanks to all responders!). We are planning to stay in Galway for a nite and then take the ferry to Inishmore. Would like to know whether 1. The ferry takes cars to the island, and 2. Does anyone know of B&B possibilities in Rossaveel(where we would possibly spend the nite before crossing to the island and what B&Bs you would recommend once we are on Inishmore (we would like to spend the nite there before crossing back to the mainland.

Staying overnight on Inishmore is a wonderful idea. We stayed at the Man of Aran Cottage and loved it. We arrived on a beautiful summer day and the owner took us out back on the patio and brought us some tea. The view is fabulous -- beyond a beautiful garden you can see the water with Connemara in the distance. Be sure to have dinner there -- everything is very fresh and delicious. Also, it's an easy walk to the big fort (name escapes me now). It's a lovely place.

Steve, those are ferries to the Isle of Arran, off of Scotland, not the Aran Islands off of Ireland. Perhaps you should read the pages you link to before you post them - the subtitle "Undiscovered Scotland" might have given you a clue. Ferries to the Aran Islands are passenger-only.

Carroll, I think the fort you are referring to is Dun Aengus.

And once again, Steve edits his original post to remove the second paragraph with his inaccurate link to a page about Scotland ferries to the Isle of Arran instead of the Aran Islands.

Thanks, Nancy. That's the fort I meant. Monica, make sure you go there; it is really impressive.
