Planning on being in the Galway area June 1. Wife and daughter would like to go to the Aran Islands. Now for the silly question. Would it be better to book our ferry tickets now or wait until we are in Galway? I've checked the web site and it says the ferries can accomodate 230 passengers. Also looks like the earliest ferry we can catch is 10:30 am and the last returning ferry is 5:30 pm.
Nancy, Thanks for the info.
I would never book ahead for a ferry to the Aran Islands. Even in the summer, it can be canceled due to rough water (even if the weather looks good). Just the other day, the Doolin ferry was canceled (one day notice). You really should wait to see what the weather and water conditions are before you commit to a day trip. It's also possible that you could be stranded temporarily on the islands if the water kicks up once you are there.
