Hi everyone,
Just wondering what opinions are on driving over bridge to Skye or taking ferry from Mallaig. We will have a vehicle and will be coming from Fort William. We do plan to leave the island via the bridge to get to Inverness. We wanted to do the road to the isles drive anyway, but not sure if ferry is worth the price, etc. Also, do they cancel if it is a rainy day?
I would take what is convenient. There was a lot of protest when the bridge went up. A lot of that centered around the toll that was charged. The notion of taking of going "over the sea to Skye" comes from Bonnie Prince Charlie's adventures with Flora MacDonald and is immortalized in the Skye Boat Song. (Google it on YouTube.) When I went to Skye the first time we took the ferry from Kyle of Lochalsh as there wasn't a bridge. Since then I've done the bridge. The island (and yes I still call it an island even with the bridge!) is beautiful. I hope that you look at all the different arms. Find the cemetery that supposedly has the graves of the Lords of the Isles. Do try to get to see Loch Coruisk. Check out Talisker whiskey. Have a wonderful time.

Do the drive one way at least.
