If we took the ferry from Larne to Cairnryan, where could we drive to and what could we expect to see? are there any towns nearby ?
Martha, your question is very general. You do not say whether you plan to stay in Scotland or if you are looking at a day trip. Technically you can drive anywhere in "mainland" Great Britain from Cairnryan. The nearest town is Stranraer, a short drive, maybe 8 miles. You can go on from there to Portpatrick or Whithorn, or many other seaside towns on the Solway Firth. You can go north to a variety of Clyde coast towns. If you keep to the coast in either direction, you will have typical seascapes. Inland there are rolling hills with sheep and cattle.
Not sure if this helps, but if you could give a time frame and what your plans beyond the ferry crossing, perhaps we can give you better advice.
