Family Train Travel - England, Scotland, & Wales

Just pricing out all our train travel and trying to decide upon a rail pass or point-to-point. So far the point-to-point is still cheaper. Wondering if anyone has experience with using the Friends & Family Railcard. Looks like a good deal to save some $$. US residents can only purchase in UK at stations. http://www.familyandfriends-railcard.co.uk/ We are traveling with 2 adults and 2 children 4 (which is free) and 9. Any helpful suggestions regarding saving money on train travel in these countries would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

We used the Family Plan for rail travel when our boys were young. That was quite awhile ago when the children's fares were only £1. We saved a lot of money including our adult ticket discounts.
