Family Tickets

I hope this makes sense. The ages for children at most places (in England and Ireland) seems to be up to 15. Does that same age apply to the family passes? My kids will be 14 & 16.

TIA,
Kristen

Family tickets for what? Attractions, transport?

This is one are where there is no standard in the UK, I've seen children's concessionary rates end anywhere between 11 and 17.

If you get back to us with what passes you are interested in I'm sure someone will know that details, although you'll have to check for each pass. Also, in my experience, this sort of detail is usually clearly spelled out in the T&Cs of the pass.

I am specifically looking for: The Book of Kells, Guiness Storehouse, Canterbury Cathedral, Dover Castle, and Battle of Hastings Abbey & Battlefield.

It is quite possible that I have overlooked the information I am seeking. I feel I am close to saturation level sometimes. ; )

I'm not sure you'd really be happy going to the Guinness Storehouse. You see nothing of the brewing process, it's just one big commercial for Guinness with lots of buying opportunities for Guinness souvenirs (that you can find everywhere in Ireland), with a "free" pint at the end. The last I knew, it was about 13 euros to get in, which makes it a pretty expensive free pint!

We took my family and my sister's family, who has 5 kids ranging in age from 12 to 17, to Ireland this summer. We bought 2 family passes for every museum and sight we went to, and that covered everybody. I think technically the family passes only cover kids up to 16, but we didn't have any problem buying the family passes.

As far as the Guinness storehouse goes, it's pretty expensive, about 35 euros for a family pass, which makes it around 50 bucks or so. If you're a big Guinness fan, then definitely go, otherwise there's other cool stuff to see in Dublin. I was disappointed that their natural history museum was closed when we were there, that one's free if it's open when you guys go. We also spent some time in Phoenix park on a Sunday, so we could see some pick-up games of soccer and cricket.

The Book of Kells family pass will run you somewhere around 14 euros.

And FYI, in case you don't know, Dublin has a family bus pass for 2 adults and 4 kids up to age 16 that's 10 euros a day. You can pick them up at the Dublin bus stand in the airport or most shops, like Spar. It's a great value.
