Family Pass on BritRail -- is it tied to a specific adult?

My family is going to Great Britain in a few weeks and were set to buy a BritRail pass. I'm leaving earlier than they are, though. My wife and daughter are going to stay and travel on their own. I want to be sure that the Family Pass we get isn't be tied to my BritRail pass, but can be used by my wife. Is this concern unnecessary?

We thought about making two separate orders: one for me and then a second one for my wife and daughter, but we'd prefer not to do so if this isn't required.

Thanks.

I think what you want is a SaverPass. Everyone has to be present to validate the pass for first use but after that you can split up with say you staying in London for a week of work and wife and daughter traveling. What you can't do is have you travel to one place and them another. Anyway, check out Rick's webpage on it. Look up Saverpass. Have fun.

Thanks for the replies, but the Family and Friends pass is different from the BritRail pass. The FAQ for the BritRail pass says: "With the BritRail Family Discount, one child between the ages of 5 and 15 travels for free when accompanying select Adult or Senior BritRail Pass holders on select passes."

I guess my question is: Will both my wife and I (who will have full BritRail passes), count each (and separately) as a "select Adult . . . Pass holder?"

Well, I went ahead and ordered some BritRail passes. It looks like they will stand alone for both adults and it also looks like our daughter can travel based on either adult ticket. If we find out different over there, I'll post a further response.

This is a separate question, but all of our passes look incredibly plain and simple. Is that the norm for a BritRail pass?

We just got back and had a family Britrail pass. I never thought about it, but I guess they do look rather plain. You validate it on your first day to use it and then after that you write in each day you are using it. They will come around and check it on the train. They never checked us a 2nd time as they always seemed to remember that they had checked ours already. From what you said, you will have no problem having your daughter traveling with you or with your wife. We were often sitting all over the train, 5 of us total, and they didn't mind that I held the tickets and pointed way ahead as to where others in our party were sitting.

Thanks, Jackie. I appreciate knowing that our passes look like yours did. For something costing hundreds of dollars, I expected holigrapic watermarks or an embossed, colored seal or something. The pass looks like someone made it out of a piece of thin cardboard.

Also, thanks for reassuring us that we shouldn't have trouble using the passes if both parents aren't there.
