We are going to England/Scotland in July 2011. We are only spending two nights in London, as it is so expensive and busy. We need a fairly big room, as we have two boys 17 and 13. Does anyone know of any good hotels that are not too expensive? We don't want to stay in a dive, but the cost for our two nights in London looks almost as much as our week in a cottage in the west! I have been looking at the Holiday Inns, as they include Breakfast, which would be great with two teen boys :) We are coming into Heathrow, and then renting a car from after our two nights in London to head west. Any suggestions on hotels?
We stayed in a quad room (one double and two twin beds) at Luna Simone Hotel with two teens summer 2009. We paid 140 pounds/night which included tax and a large hot breakfast. We enjoyed the location near Victoria station, and the hotel staff was very nice and helpful. Just to be clear, the room had enough beds for us all, but was not a terribly large room, nor was the bathroom. We stayed three nights, and the size of the room was fine for us; small hotel rooms are pretty typical in Europe.
Check out the London School of Economics. They rent spare dorm rooms to tourists. You might have to get 2 rooms, but at their prices (I've seen as low as 40 pounds)I think it would still be a savings. You also have kitchen privledges, so you could fix some of your own meals. One of their dorms is near Trafalagar Square.
You might consider Priceline for two rooms.
I found the Novotel London West for a good price (200 cnd/night) and it includes a buffet breakfast. The only glitch is that I have to pay it now, and it is not refundable. Any thoughts on this hotel? We like the idea of a chain, with a buffet, as our teenagers will certainly eat our monies worth :) My husband likes the air conditioning and the price.
