Family history in Lochalsh, Scotland

Hello,
I used this site extensively when we went to Italy 2009 and am looking forward to planning a trip to Britain in sept 201. I want to visit the Lochalsh area in Scotland to see where my McRae clan came from. Does anyone have any suggestions for a comfy B&B in the area? Also historical societies/museums.

Christine, You should plan on a visit to Edinburgh as well as Lochalsh. The Museum of Scotland is definitely worth a visit. I assume you've found the Clan McRae website. There's a great magazine on Scottish history and their website is http://www.historyscotland.com/ . I've really enjoyed this magazine. Also, Historic Scotland is a great resource http://www.historic-scotland.gov.uk/ Check out the properties that they have and see if it's worth a pass. If you are interested in really old history--geology--check out this site. http://www.scottishgeology.com/index.html Rampant Scotland is always a helpful site and has been around since the '90's! http://www.rampantscotland.com/ I also have found the government site, www.visitscotland.com to be helpful.

I stayed at the Picture House in Broadford when I visited Skye. I liked because they are photographers. Their sitting room looks right out across the inner sound to Scalpay.

Thanks Pamela,
We will have about 10 days in Scotland and Edinburgh is definitely on the list. I would like to spend at least 2 nights in the Skye, Lochalsh area
