Eurolines from UK to Ireland

Has anyone used Eurolines from the UK to Ireland? How did you find the trip? My husband and I are looking at options to travel from the London/Kent area to Ireland, so I would appreciate any comments you might have.

For both the coach and the train the trip is fine, I mean a train's a train and bus is a bus, they are long trips though.

There was quite a long discussion on this a few months ago, if the search co-operates I'll try and find it for you later. In the old days, back when I was a student, these train or coach packages were great value if you had time to kill. Since the expansion of the budget airlines you can make the same trip, in a quarter of the time, for not much more money.

One possible perk of the train is that that £29 is the walk up fee, with the coach and aeroplane you need to advance purchase to get the good fares.

Edit: Found it http://www.ricksteves.com/graffiti/helpline/index.cfm?topic=33881

It actually focusses more on the train but the issues are the same except the coach takes even longer.

The main problem with budget airlies is luggage restrictions and fees, and fees, and fees. Train and bus do not have as restriced fees. On the bus, 2 pieces of luggage is free, plus carry-on. If taking bus or train, take food and water/drink but no alcohol on the bus. No sure about train. I have see a driver take beer from a passengers hand and throw it out the window.

BMI flies from Heathrow to Dublin. Very lenient carry on and their fares are competitive with Ryanair.

The train will take longer but it's a much prettier trip.
