Anyone have suggestions on where to stay (hotels) while in Ennis?
The Old Ground Hotel, is located near the town center. I've stayed there a few times. Some people say its a bit old and worn but I think thats the style of it. Maybe a bit pricey depends on when you stay but deffo worth a look
From the RS Ireland guidebook: Grey Gables B&B ($$) and Rockfield B&B ($). Both are on Station Road, within two blocks of the train/bus station.
From the Lonely Planet Ireland guidebook: Four Winds (budget) and Ain Karem (budget). Ardlea House (mid-range) and Newpark House (mid-range). Ardlea House gets an especially good review.
Temple Gate Hotel (www.templegatehotel.com - who woulda thunk it?) looks promising and reasonable, though I've not stayed there.
We're staying at The Old Ground for two nights this December. Don't know when your trip is, but will post feedback this winter on the hotel. I can say that the people there have been great to work with in planning our stay/arrival...on 26 December, a holiday.
Thanks everyone. I plan to visit ennis sometime in Oct.
We are planning an extensive biking trip to Ireland, but mostly coastal. I've heard that Ennis is "the place" for traditional music. It is a bit off the track of our itinerary (but possible). Will we have really missed something if we don't get there??
Since you're going to be biking along the coast, I presume you'll be stopping in Galway and Dingle. If so, you'll find plenty of pubs that offer traditional music sessions in both towns.
