My two sisters and I, all in our 50s, will be staying in London in April and want a nice "English" small hotel to stay in around Mayfair or South Kensington, that won't completely break the bank. Any help? Thanks.

A long time ago, on my first time in London, I stayed at the Rembrandt Hotel and I have never forgotten it. It was quintessentially "English". There was even a bishop in gaiters taking tea in the lounge one afternoon. I thought I would die of pleasure. Maybe it is still as English. I hope so.

We haven't stayed there, but I've heard good things about Hazlits. Not sure about the location, but the descriptions sound very, very English.
