We will be landing into Heathrow on a Monday morning at 6am and want to visit Bath, Cotswolds and Blenheim in 2 days. What is the best way if not renting a car. Thank you!
The two days, does that include the arrival day? If so, don't see how you can possibly do it considering jet lag. We arrived in Gatwick and drove to Bath the same day after early AM arrival. I think it was about 2 hour drive but not sure any more. Anyway, by the time we got to Bath, checked into B&B we could only walk around the town before dinner and then to early bed. The next day we took Bath walking tour, went to Wells and that was enough for 2 days. See what others think but IMHO seems too much in too little time especially with public transportation.
You can take airport bus to Oxford...take public bus to Woodstock..go to Blenheim...take bus to station...train thru Cotswolds to Bath...you will have to zig zag a bit.
Without a car; the practical way to get a "glimpse" of these three locations is to get orgainized tours from London, or from Bath and london. Not the cheapest solution and certainly wont allow you to see much- but at least you will leave it to someone else to o the driving and planning personally i would opt for a rental car - and probably only do a max of two of your selections
Blenheim is several miles outside Oxford. Oxford is easily reached by train - rubber tires are required to connect to Blenheim. The tube only is in Greater London - Oxford is about 60 miles from London. Confusedly a coach company which runs between Oxford and London calls itself the "Oxford Tube" but it is most definitely a coach (bus).
We used Gray Line tours to visit Bath, Cotswolds and I believe we took the train or tube directly to Blenheim. I can't imagine you will see all three of these places in two days though. Gray LIne is based here in the U.S. You can call them directly or book on-line. Elaine
If you rent a car you can leaves LHR and see Blenheim easily. I've done it. Then spend night in Stowe or another Cotswold village. If you want to go to Bath you could on day 2 but you will sacrifice seeing the wonderful Cotswold villages. By public transportation I think you are going to be frustrated in theCotswolds. Any particular reason for not renting a car?
For 2 days, I would not rent a car, either. So, I would forget about the Cotswolds. Focus on Bath and Blenheim. That said, Blenheim and Oxford is a much simpler combination. Parts of Bath are prettier, but I think Oxford is more interesting. Remember, jet lag is real. No matter how peppy you feel when the plane lands, at some point during the day you will just stop.
Wow!!! Thanks for all the great tips and information. This is awesome.
I highly recommend Alan Price at Celtic Horizons (http://www.celtichorizons.com/main/index.php?site=tour) who can pick you up at Heathrow and take you to Bath for a wonderful tour. I've also been to Blenheim with Alan and I know he does the Cotswolds. He can suggest the best route for the two days and is very honest about what is reasonable to do during the time that you have. I've never been disappointed with his tours. His rate is by the hour no matter how many people so for our group of 3 and 4, it was well worth it.
Are these 2 days left over/before a business visit? Will you be on the island or continent longer than this? Just trying to figure out how to work out your jetlag. My personal rule is to not sleep until 9pm on day one, then I can wake early the following day and get moving. Works for me (and my wife )everytime.
You're trying to pile a lot into 2 days, so I agree that it might be wise to drop the cotswolds (as adorable as they are) and focus on the other two. Each of your locations really needs 2 days or more for each of them, much less combined.
I would not give up the Cotswolds, even if I had to walk.
I agree with Terry Kathryn. The Cotswolds would be the one out of the three that I would not skip. You can start in Bath, see all the Roman stuff the first day, stay for the night in Bath, then the second day, take the Mad Max Cotswold tour which leaves from Bath. It is a bus tour that takes you through many of the Cotswold villages and returns to Bath. http://www.madmaxtours.co.uk/ Their website says the tour is available on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays. I assume from your post you will fly out of Heathrow late in the evening of the second day? If you have a little more time, you could spend the second night in Oxford, then take the bus out to Blenheim the next morning. (Or a taxi. The ride is so short, 15 minutes.) To get there: Bus - The number S3 to Woodstock runs from Oxford Train station and Gloucester Green to the gates of Blenheim Palace on Hensington Road in Woodstock. Please ask the bus driver to identify the appropriate stop. The bus runs every 30 minutes. For the timetable and prices visit www.stagecoachbus.com/timetables/S3 for more information on the route visit http://www.stagecoachbus.com/S3.aspx. Car - drive north from the city center on Woodstock Road, follow signs to Woodstock (10-15 minutes) The instructions in the previous paragraph are lifted directly from the Oxford City Guide, which you also may find useful: http://www.oxfordcityguide.com/ee2/index.php?/SeeDo/NearbyExcursions/
