England to Italy

Hi,

I am posting my itinerary of my trip this year with a friend. I shared the entire itinerary to give you a sense of how my friend and I will be traveling to England so no need to comment on the Italy portion unless you would like to.

Trip: England & Italy
Days: 46
Date: May 3-June 17, 2010
Departure: May 3, 2010 8:45pm
Arrival in Birmingham, England: May 4, 2010 6:30am

Train to Nottingham
Nottingham: 4-5 days (May 4-8/9)
London: 4 days (May 9-13)
London to France (travel south to Nice, Cannes, Monaco, Italian Riviera including Genoa). We were thinking of spending 1-2 days in these places.
Options: (May 13 or 14, 2010) Fly London to Nice with Easyjet OR another airline that is cheaper. We looked at Easyjet would cost us 145 pounds each one-way!

thetrainline.com – I found this site for trains within England. Is this a good site or is there another useful site?

Italy:
Genoa to Cinque Terre (4 days)
Rome (5 days)
Fondi (2-3 days)
Positano, Sorrento, Amalfi Coast & Island of Ischia & Capri (total of 10-12 days). We will be based in Sorrento staying at a friend’s house – a local that I met last year. : )
Amantea (5 -7 days)

I appreciate any positive or helpful feedback that you may have.

Thanks.

Just checked Easyjet - one way basic fare London Gatwick to Nice was between 39 and 45 pounds on the 13th May. If you add things like seat selection extra bag etc it will go up. Or you can pay 64 pounds each for the so called flexi fare which gives you all the bells and whistles. Getting the basic flight plus seat selection (in the alightly roomier areas) and hold baggage brings it to just below 64 pounds - still much cheaper than the fare you found. Also you have a choice of four or five flights a day.

If you choose Easyjet, book sooner rather than later as fares increase nearer travel date.
