I have a two part question. We would like to travel to all three places but I'm not sure of the order that makes sense. I would like to fly into Glasgow, go down through Lakes, into Wales and finish in Ireland but our airline doesn't fly out of Ireland so I would have to get back to England to fly home. Also, because I'm renting a car for the whole trip I'm wondering about going into Ireland with a car rented elsewhere? It doesn't seem to be smart to rent one in Scotland and take it over on the ferry only to rent another in Ireland and then yet another once we go back across to Wales. Not sure how it might work best. Hoping for help. Thank you!
If Polly is reading the helpline, hopefully she will answer this question. They traveled to several countries and rented cars in Ireland and England.I think you would go to Ireland from Holyhead. Perhaps you should do Ireland then do Wales then head back to where you have to depart from in England. Can you fly out of London making your part of Wales easier to visit. Wish I was going again. We loved England and Wales. Take lots of pictures!!!
When we toured Ireland and England we did two separate car rentals. It was the only ting that made sense for us. Our round trip ticket from home was for Seattle to London. Then we booked a one way fare to Dublin. We rented a car there for 17 days, then took the ferry from Dublin over to Wales where we rented another car at the ferry dock. We returned that car to Heathrow before taking the tube into London. I don't remember if we paid extra to drop it off in a different place than we picked it up, but if we did it wasn't much. You might pick up a car, do Scotland, England and Wales and then rent a different car in Ireland. Then you could look into flying back to England to go home. As for doing all three areas: that was our original plan. When we sat down and started working out what we wanted to see, a month just wasn't long enough. Have fun.
