edinburgh train to London

I'm traveling to the UK next year. I was planning on catching the Caledonian sleeper out of Edinburgh to London and was wondering if it's safe to be at the Waverley station so late at night (around 11PM)? Is it a very busy train station?

Station is very safe. Generally safe station in central Edinburgh. Lots staff and transport police (friendly). I use this train occasionally. s :o)

Beatrice, I was in Edinburgh in September and while Waverley station is busy, it felt perfectly safe. If you'll be departing at 23:00, keep in mind there should be lots of other passengers waiting in the station then to board the same train. Happy travels!

Beatrice, I want to second the opinion that you'll be safe. There are good waiting rooms and there will be people around. I've walked around the area on my own at that time of night and felt very safe. Pam

I'd have no concerns in that station. As earlier posters have said, there will likely be several people around waiting to get on same train.

If safety is a concern, you could also take an earlier train to London. The Caledonian Sleeper is operated by Scotrail and information on that is athttp://www.scotrail.co.uk/caledoniansleeper/index.html and other trains on the direct route are operated by East Coast http://www.eastcoast.co.uk/ East Coast trains arrive in London at Kings Cross station whereas the Caledonian Sleeper arrives at Euston. Kings Cross may be somewhat handier for some onward connections as it is across the street from St. Pancras which is where Eurostar trains, Thames Link for Gatwick and Brighton and Southeastern High Speed trains into Kent depart from. Euston is about a 15 minute walk away.
