Edinburgh Scotland for the Festival

I'm here in Edinburgh, Scotland until Wednesday the 14th. I have Rick's guide on Scotland, but I would love anyone's suggestions on tours to take or other places to go to meet other solo travelers or simply to meet more people. I usually meet lots of people easily when traveling alone, but this trip has felt different. Thank you!

Go to Sandy's Bells near the University and you'll find some people to talk with. I went there as a single woman and was comfortable. You could check out some day tours with the TI near Waverley Station. Maybe take one to the Borders. Have you looked at the Fringe Festival Schedule? You might also meet people by attending some the shows. And go to more pubs. Ask your B&B or hotel to suggest some. Pam

Thanks to both of you, Ed and Pam. I struck out again last night trying to find a seat at a pub. I think I'm showing up too late after lots of walking -- around 9:15 pm. Today I will try your suggestions Pam ... Off to a walking tour of the Royal Mile. Thanks for your support! :)

It is also easier to meet people in small town pubs than city pubs, or at least I always found that to be so. It might also be that I'm more comfortable there. Maybe you'll meet some people on the walking tour and have a drink in a pub afterwards. When I was in Brugge I got to talking with a Scottish couple on a brewery tour. We ended up having not only some beers in the beer garden afterwards, but went for a buggy ride and had dinner together. Lots of fun. But, you do have to work it. I am absolutely positive I started the conversation with the couple. Pam
