Planning to stay in Edinburgh for 3 nights this October with my wife. Can you suggest a hotel at the heart of the Royal Mile area? Thanks.
When we go to Edinburgh, we like to stay at the Royal British Hotel. It is on Princes St., across from Waverly Station. It is only a short walk over the bridge to the Royal Mile.
There is a Raddison right on the Royal Mile and it seems to get good ratings. On the luxury side of things is The Scotsman. I've had friends stay there and really enjoy it. At the other end of the Royal Mile is The Witchery, which also has a wonderful restaruant that I'm dying to try some time. Edinburgh is a pretty small place and you can get to the Royal Mile very quickly from B&B's on Dalkeith Road or even from Bruntsfield. I like staying near New Town and find that it's easy to get up to the Royal Mile and I see more Scots in New Town and more tourists on the Royal Mile. Mind you, it's impossible to escape tourists in Edinburgh. You need to embrace them. ; ) Pam
My family and I stayed at Fraser Suites Edinburgh in May of this year. It is only steps away from the Royal Mile. The rooms were very nice, but definitely pricy. We will stay there again when we get back around to visiting Edinburgh.
Surprised nobody has mentioned it yet, but the Ibis Edinburgh Centre is directly in the middle of the Royal Mile, can't get any more centrally located than this:)
Thanks, Michael. Will check it out.
Hi Kate. Thanks for the reply. The reviews say that there is no AC in Fraser? Is this true? I do not know if AC is necessary in Edinburgh in October.
Thanks Toni and Pamela. Will surely take a look at these hotels. Your comments are very helpful.
No air conditioning should be needed for Edinburgh in October. Wool sweaters, yes, AC, no.
Don't worry about the air conditioning in October. You rarely need AC in Edinburgh in July and August. ; ) Just make sure you pack your rain gear - I like Goretex - and layers. Of course, you can always buy a sweater when you are there. ; ) Pam
We stayed at the Radisson about 2 years ago and thought the location was perfect - walked out the front door onto the the Royal Mile. It was very nice, attractive, clean, modern, if slightly on the business-y side as far as decor. I would love to stay there again if I'm lucky enough to ever go back to Edinburgh.
