Can anyone recommend a small hotel or b and b closer to the Royal Mile/Princes St. area than the Dalkeith Rd neighborhood? Will be in E-burgh with my elderly mom who wants to be in a downtown area, able to walk out for a newspaper every morning. She is a pretty hardy walker, but does not want to take a bus to the attractions.

We were there last September with Rick's Scotland tour and stayed at the Parliament House Hotel. It's just off Princes St. and we walked everywhere from there (castle, Holyrood House, etc.) but you do need to be a good walker--lots of uphills. Enjoyed the hotel & its restaurant.
