Edinburgh Parking/Traffic

Can anyone give me ant suggestions about parking in the New Town/Princes Street area? Is it worth trying? Also is road construction a problem if driving in from the airport to the Princes Street area? Or should we just park at B & B and take bus? Thanks for any help. Will be traveling next month.

Absolutely take the bus. It's just not worth it. When I visit Edinburgh I usually stay near the Royal Botanic Gardens and take the bus up in the AM and often walk back. I've not been in a couple of years, but I expect that they still have the day ticket that allows you to travel on the bus all day. My hotel gives me a map, tells me the bus numbers and reminds me what the fare is and off I go.

I don't even bother driving in Edinburgh. The bus system met my needs quite well.

Yes....take the bus.

You dont want to drive in traffic.

You dont want to search for parking.

As soon as you can visit the closest Tourist Information Office and ask for info. Get a map of the city trans system so you can ride the bus or trolley.

Take the Bus. There is a parking deck at the end of Princess St., but it will cost you 2o to 30 pounds for the days parking. Bus ticket was around 2.30 when I was there for an all day ticket.

Thanks for your replies. Will take the bus. We love public transportation in Europe but also like driving car on the "wrong" side of the road in Britain and negotiating roundabouts.

Ah, if you like driving in the UK then head for the highland and check out the wee roads. There is a wonderful book about whisky--Raw Spirit by Iain Banks. He's in search of the perfect dram and part of the fun is the getting to the distilleries.
