I am traveling with my 23 year old daughter who has major allergies to smoke, mildew and I cannot afford to stay at the 5 star hotels. A clean B&B or non-smoking hotel would suit. Could anyone recommend a place/ We will be there in June 2011.
Thanks, Michelle
We used "latestatys.com for Edinburgh. Non-smoking 2 bedroom apartment for $100 US with free transport to town every half hour. FYI Most B&B are non-smoking and we never had a mildew problem/most of them are very well regulated by the state/we found B&B cleaner than hotels.
In Edinburgh, my daughter and I stayed in this lovely B&B, Elderfields Guest House, in May of this year and paid 64 GBP per night. This included a nice breakfast. It was about a 10 min. walk from the Royal Mile and the owner, Maureen was fantastic. The house looks directy out onto Arthurs Seat and is right around the corner from Holyrood Palace and Park.

In June, 2010, we used two B& B, both of which were very pleasant and had charming hosts. Amaraqua in Edinburgh is near Arthur's Seat, has nice rooms, and serves a beautiful breakfast.......
For Inverness, we stayed in Invermorriston at Tigh na Bruach, probably the loveliest B and B we have ever used. It is right on the shores of Loch Ness, about midway down the north shore of the loch. You would need a car to stay there, I believe.
In Inverness, we really liked the Trafford Bank Guesthouse B&B. It's ranked #3 of 161 B&B's and inns in Inverness on Trip Advisor.***http://www.traffordbankguesthouse.co.uk/
My dad searched high and low several years ago, prior to the new smoking laws in Scotland, for a B&B / hotel that was smoke free. We stayed at the Inverlieth Hotel near the Royal Botanic Gardens and it was very nice. I liked it because they had small residents' bar for an after dinner whisky, the breakfast was good, and I liked getting away from the tourists. It's still very close to everything.
BTW the happy news is that there is no smoking in the pubs any more!

Thank-you so much for the great information. I will look into all of the recommended B&B's. This is the first time I have tried posting and I am amazed at how easy it is to get helpful information. After hours of angonizing over places to stay I now feel so much more confident that I have the names of some pretty reliable places. Thank-you to everyone who took the time to answer my question.
Michelle, In Edinburgh we stayed at Mingular B&B(www.mingalar.eu). It was about a 15 minute walk from Waverly Station.
In Inverness we stayed at St Anns House (www.stannshouse.com). The owners are great people and extremely familiar with the goings on in the area. Also their garden out back is marvelous.
Thank-you Joel I will add that info to my list to look into.
We stayed at - http://www.ardgarryguesthouse.co.uk/. Lovely welcome, 10-15 minute walk to town, over the river bridge, 10 minutes to self service laundry, 10 minutes to grocery store. Wonderful location. Exceptional service from the matron of the house and her son. Went way above and beyond what is necessary. I would love to stay with them again if I go back to Inverness.
Thanks John I will look that guesthouse up on the internet.

Hi Michelle,
Two more possibilities: easy on budget, nice hosts, good breakfasts. I will stay again, ever I have the opportunity.
I visited this past June. The flowers were wonderful to see! I posted some in a slideshow of my trip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MTR1Maj8P8k
Have a great trip!
