Edinburgh hotels question

Has anyone stayed in any of Rick's recommended B&Bs on Dalkeith Road? Looking at a map of Edinburgh, Dalkeith Road seems a little far to me, but not having been to Edinburgh before and being rather bad with maps, I could be (and probably am) wrong. Many thanks!

I've not stayed at any of Rick's suggested places, but I did stay at a hotel near there and it's not bad. Edinburgh is a small place. The place I stayed at was 43 Dalkeith Road and I would catch the bus up to the Royal Mile, it's probably only 5 or 10 minutes and it's at most a 10 to 15 minute walk if I remember right. I can tell you for sure that it was raining quite a bit during my stay and I had a bad cold, but I never felt like I was too far out of town. ; ) Pam

Thanks Pam! Since we'll be there in February, I know it will be cold and rainy so I don't want to have too far of a walk.

We have always stayed at The Royal British Hotel. It is across Princes St. from Waverly Train Station. VERY convienent to everything and not very expensive at all. They also serve a great breakfast. You should be able to get a good rate in Feb.

Daughter and I stayed at Kenvie House in the Dalkeith Road area in 2009; the bus stop was less than 5 minutes walk, buses were frequent, and we were at the Royal Mile in about 15 minutes. Very easy!

I agree with Kathleen. We have stayed in the Dalkeith Road area on 2 different trips. About one block walk to bus stop and 15 minutes to Royal Mile.

Thanks for the advice, everyone! My sister and I will probably stay in that area. Found some really great deals!

We stayed in the Dalkeith Road area this past July at Amaraqua, a very nice B and B with friendly hosts. It is about 1.5 miles from there to the castle and some of the walk is uphill. The area is also convenient if you want to visit Arthur's Seat or Holyrood. There are many reasonably priced restaurants near Amaraqua, we particularly liked Positano. The restaurants appeared to be filled with locals, not tourists.
