Edinburgh, Hotel or B&B Recommendations

We (my adult daughter and I) are going to Edinburgh the end of May for 4 nights and would like having some suggestions for reasonable accomodations in the city center. Looking for rooms with 2 twin beds with private bath, and would like to keep it under 80 GBP a night if possible.

Have you done any good walking tours here or have other favorite things that you saw or did here?
Thanks!

Jo, My favorite hotel, The Inverlieth is within your budget. I like it because it's a bit off the tourist track, but still close enough to walk back to. (I say walk back as I usually took the bus up the hill to Princes Street and The Royal Mile. http://www.inverleithhotel.co.uk

I took one of the Meercat tours--the Vaults--one year and really like it. I've been wanting to try the Rebus Tours. http://www.rebustours.com/ Of course, I'm a big Ian Rankin fan.

I like most of the sights. But I would particularly recommend The Georgian House and the Castle. I also did a tour of Holyrood (the parliament not the castle) which was fascinating. I enjoyed the walk along Leith Water too. If you want a nice day trip is to Stirling. The castle is spectacular.

The restaurants that I like include Creelers, Fishers, Mussel Inn, Stac Poli, and The Shore. Sandy's Bells is fun for traditional music.

My teen daughter and I spent 3 days in Edinburgh last August and had a wonderful time. We are big history buffs and particularly enjoyed Edinburgh Castle, Real Mary King's Close, Gladstone's Land [all along the Royal Mile] and Georgian House in New Town. One evening we stopped off on our way home [we stayed in Kenvie B&B out on Dalkeith Road] and hiked through Holyroodhouse Park near the Crags; weather was beautiful and it was fun to see the city laid out before us. Have a wonderful trip!

Thanks for the info. The hotel was booked, but am checking a few other places. I actually found a Best Western on Obitz for 47 € per night, which I thought was pretty decent. Are there many places to go for breakfast or should we just eat at the hotel?

edit update. Waited too long and the Best Western was booked. Found lovely accomodations using Trip Advisor, at Elderfield Guest House for 64 GBP per night and it includes breakfast. No deposit and the owner sounded just lovely on the phone. Will post a Trip Report when we get back. Doing Ryan Air too. Got round trip tickets for us for a total of 118 euro. Got trip insurance in case of more volcanos :-))

The Botanical Gardens look amazing. Have read varying reviews about the castle, many people seem to think it was a waste to tour it for 13 GBP. I wouldn't mind going on top of it, but not so much inside unless it is really interesting. The Scottish Museum looks good too. Will check out the tours. Saw a couple of Ghost or Murder tours for the evening that looked like they might be fun. Have you gone on those?
