A friend will be in Edinburgh for one night in July after a tour and needs an affordable hotel ($100-200) take will them for one night on a weekend. Any suggestions?
Ruth, there are lots of good hotels in Edinburgh. If your tour ends in a hotel stay in Edinburgh, I would just stay put. But otherwise you need to thin about where you want to be. You can look right near the Royal Mile, or stay 15-20 minutes walk from the city. I have stayed at the Inverleith Hotel near the Royal Botanic Gardens. I usually would catch a bus up the hill in the AM and walk down at night or evening. I stayed recently at a B&B, The Walton, recently and it was closer. No residents bar, but still nice. It you're willing to go slighty higher than $200 you could stay at The George, which is an older hotel in New Town. I'm dying to try it some day. My parents honeymooned there in the 50's. It was their splurge hotel.
My family and I stayed at a Holiday Inn on Queensferry Rd two years ago that was great! Ask to be on the side of the hotel with castle views. We were high up and has a fantastic view of Edinburgh castle out our window! It was also directly across from a bus stop (takes you right to the Royal mile) and a shopping center that has a supermarket with a cafe in it for affordable and delicious meal options. The hotel was clean and the staff was helpful. Wish we had stayed longer - it's a great city!
Ruth, You could try Hotel Ceilidh Donia which is about 10 minutes out of the downtown centre by Bus, just off Dalkeith Road. The rooms are very comfortable, great staff and they serve a good breakfast. Cheers!
Thanks for the suggestions, everyone. They have booked a place now. Wish it was me!
