Four of us will be spending our first night in Edinburgh with a rental car . I know parking can be tough. Any suggestions on places to stay near the Royal Mile preferably?

We stayed at the Mayfair which is near Greyfriers only a mile from the Royal Mile...We had parking...but I can't remember if it was free. They have a website.

Look in the Dalkeith Road area. I stayed there a number of years ago, but my hotel is not there anymore. But a Google search with Dalkeith Road, hotels, and parking did bring up some places with free parking. Also, in that area it's an easy bus ride or walk to city centre. PAm

Mary, we stayed at 6 Brunton Place and it is magnificent. It is rated #1 among B&Bs in Edinburgh on tripadvisor, a rating which is well deserved. There is parking on the street nearby. DO NOT choose Dalkeith Road location. It is WAY south of town. We drove by the Rick Steves' recommended places on Dalkeith Rd on our way out of Edinburgh and could not believe how far they are from everything. Also, the area looks depressing.
