Edgware Road near Marble Arch - Safe?

I'll be in London with my family this June. I used Marriott points to book a room in the Marriott Marble Arch on the south end of Edgware Road (on the corner of Edgware and George Street). I think the neighborhood sounds interesting, but my wife wanted me to ask around to make sure it would be a safe area for a family. We plan to use the Marble Arch and Edgware Road Tube stations and obviously will spend the majority of our time outside of the neighborhood seeing the sights, but I just wanted to get an opinion or two as to whether or not folks familiar with the Marble Arch/Edgware Road area believe we're likely to feel safe when we were going to and fro from the hotel. Thanks for any opinion you care to share on this topic. :)

Jeff, This is a perfectly safe area. As with any large city, just keep your eyes open, but you and your family should be perfectly safe. Also, both Tube stations are fine. Enjoy London.

Stayed two blocks north of Marble Arch in 2007. Had a great time & felt perfectly safe. We often finished the day with picnic dinner in Hyde Park with food purchased from the convenience store on the corner.

As others have said, it is perfectly safe. There are other Marriotts that I think are better located for sightseeing (e.g. the Marriott at London County Hall) or in more upscale areas (e.g. Grosvenor House), but Marble Arch is fine.

I have stayed in Marble Arch--single woman traveling alone. The neighborhood is fine. I did not feel at all unsafe. (If you haven't already done so, you might want to check tripadvisor.com for lots of other opinions on this hotel and the neighborhood).

Yep, it's as safe as any place in London, and perhaps more so. We've stayed off Bayswater Road to the West (at the North side of the park). There were a number of Middle Eastern restaurants in the area, so you're in luck if you like a good kabob. It is a pretty big shopping area and there is lots of foot traffic until well into the night.
