Eating near The Globe Theater in London

Does anyone have suggestions for an affordable pub/restaurant near The Globe Theater? I have tickets to see a performance but I cannot seem to find a recommendation in the London guidebook.

Joanna If you like middle eastern food the Tas Pide is right next door. This is one of a small chain of middle eastern restaurants all of which do nice and reasonable food. It's worth booking as it gets very busy. They'll probably ask you as you go in whether you plan to see the performance and will ensure you get your food on time. Details, including map and menu, are here http://www.tasrestaurant.com/tas_pide/directions.htm The Globe itself is great and I'm sure you'll have a good time. Alan

The Globe is on the South Bank. Several pubs, cafes, restaurants are located along the Thames within walking distance of the Globe, some near, some far. Bear in mind it is a highly touristed area. Try Googling the Globe, bring it up on a Google map, and check to see what's located near by.

Alan, thank you for suggesting Tas Pide. I checked it's menu and it has many dishes that makes me consider it as an option before the play. I am excited to see Hamlet at The Globe. It's one of my favorite plays by Shakespeare. I am interested in hearing about other restaurants travelers/posters on this helpline have visited near the theatre or in other London neighborhoods that they recommend--good or bad. Thank you.

It's mostly chain restaurants on the river bank. Adjacent to the Globe there are branches of Pizza Express and Real Greek, and if you walk along the river bank to the east there are branches near by of Wagamama (Japanese) and Nandos (fried chicken). Any of those are reasonably reliable.

Wagamama (Japanese) and Nandos (fried chicken) Nitpicky comment - Nandos does not fry stuff, its all grilled; Wagamama is Japanese and asian inspired noodle and rice dishes but certainly not genuine Japanese - tasty though. My favourite is No. 42.

June, 2008, we ate at the Swan Pub which is part of the Globe Theatre. We thought it was affordable. We had a pleasant lunch with a view of St. Paul's across the river.

Several years ago, we ate at the Pizza Express and were pleasantly surprised at the quality, variety and reasonable prices. Best of all was our table with a great view of the Thames.

Sophie's message reminds me that we ate at the Pizza Express last year. The food was fine and, as she says, the view was excellent. Another option where, once again, the food is no more than reasonable but the view really good is The Founders Arms. http://www.foundersarms.co.uk/index.htm Alan

I enjoyed a pint at the Founders Arm pub before my visit to the Globe. About 5 minutes on foot upstream from the Globe, the pub is modern, but with a great view across the Thames. They serve food. Tas is an excellent suggestion.
