Because our teens are having Spring break over the Easter holiday, this is when we will be traveling. We will be flying into London and staying only 3 days, one of them being Easter. Then we are off to Paris and Amsterdam for the remaining 12 days. (A longer UK trip is being planned for next year) Anything special going on? I assume a lot of things will be closed for the holiday? Maybe it will be a nice time to take some lovely walks, go to the park, etc. Any advice is appreciated, thank you.
From a tourist perspective, you will find plenty of things open on Easter Sunday. Most of the museums have normal Sunday hours. London Walks has walks on Easter Sunday. Good Friday and Easter Monday are also bank holidays, but again you will find plenty of tourist sights, restaurants, and shops open. Do check the websites of the places that you want to visit to confirm their hours during the holiday period.
Laura is right. Because the British kids will be off for the bank holidays expect extra people at the tourist attractions. Rail is likely to be disrupted for bank holiday engineering works. Roads will be very very busy.
Easter Monday- the London Harness Horse Parade is special, horses and tiny donkeys pulling carriages and carts. The drivers all dressed up. Absolutely thrilling. used to be held in Regents Park, but is now held at a location outside of London.
Oh you must visit Hyde Park to see the Easter Skate Extravaganza. Checkout the Timeout magazine or viewlondon websites for all the details in the New Year. You can also witness the Crucifixion Walk in Westminster on Good Friday. Majority of the museums will be open but imagine St. Paul's and Westminster Abbey will have Good Friday and Easter Services and not be open for tourists. Easy city to explore on foot and you can see alot in 3 days.
Under the Sunday Trading law, Easter Sunday is one of the two days in England and Wales (Christmas Day is the other) when stores over a certain size are required to close. That means, if they choose, only small stores will open.
