I am very prone to inner ear pain on flights. I've read all the traditional things to do for it, and I already do those and it barely makes the pain level acceptable. Does any one know of any thing else that might work?! Please! My only other alternative is to stay up all night on my family's flight to London in 12 days!
Thanks!
There were a number of posts recently about this very issue. Scroll down through the topics in the General Europe section and you'll find some suggestions.
I'm sorry, but how is staying up all night going to prevent the pain? Try a product from Walgreens or CVS called Ear Planes.
I was wondering the same thing, Pat. Rereading it, though, I think she means the pain will keep her awake?
Tylenol PM. Works like a wonder. My best flight to Ireland was in 2006, woke up 10 to 15 min before landing, of course I was arriving at 6:30am and was tagged to drive. :)
and stay away from airplane food. I swear they put additive and preservative poison in it which makes everything worse.
Usually this is caused by something called eustachian tube dysfunction. Talk to your doctor about trying a dose of Afrin in your nose while leaning back to allow the Afrin to drain way back onto the opening of the eustachian tube just before your flight takes off. Repeat during the flight if necessary. This will hopefully allow air pressure to equalize by allowing air to vent from your inner ear and stop your ear drum from hurting. That doesn't always work. I would also ask your physician about Auralgan which is a local anesthetic which would coat your ear drum and stop the pain very well.
