Duxford For a Day?

We're staying in London. Is Duxford Imperial War Museum
doable in one day?

Yes. Don't need to drive. (Can if you want to) Train to Cambridge, local bus to Duxford, special Duxford buses from Cambridge on display days. Hendon = excellent Duxford = off the scale Duxford on a display day = oh wow...

Duxford is terrific! I visited using the local bus from the rail station. I've also made a visit during the summer Flying Legends .. an astronomically amazing event! .. WW2 warbirds flying over a WW2 airbase in a spectacular choreography! I remember finding the times for the local bus online, so it is available, somewhere. That will let you know when to arrive by train and then take bus, should you not be driving. I've not made it to Hendon, yet, but it's on my to visit list. I like Nigel's evaluation--gives me assurance I am not overdoing recommendations to Duxford :-)

Thanks to everyone for their input. Duxford is definitely on our itinerary. We are going in October so I will have
to research a little further for ongoing special events.

For anybody who will be in England this weekend the Flying Legends airshow is at Duxford. There are regular shows at Shuttleworth

We did Duxford from London in a day. Get going early to make the most of this amazing place. Train to Cambridge and a secenic bus ride ride right to the door at Duxford. We were there on a Saturday and were fortunate to witness a Spitfire do a couple of fly overs and land. It was something I will never forget.

I made a day trip and took the train from Liverpool Street Station as it was about 7 pounds cheaper than the train from Kings Cross. It was 14.70 on a Sunday. The C 7 bus to Duxford departs in front of the station in Cambridge (across the roundabout) and cost 5.40 pounds round trip. The number of aircraft on display is extensive and the ground warfare building has a nice collection of tanks and artillery. I spent about 6 hours at the museum including lunch at one of the cafeterias. If you are an aviation enthusiast you will have a great time.
