In Rick's Guidebook there are prices for DBLs. Are they really double beds? My wife and I would probably suffer trying to sleep in double beds for an extended period of time.

For the most part, yes they are doubles. But for a small amount more you can get a Queen size. Remember a double is smaller than a queen by about six(?) inches. And that is another thing to check, some places will push two twins together and call it a double bed! I check Trip Adviser before I book anything, it's really helpful.

At least if it were two twins pushed together, it would be the equivalent of a king size bed. I have stayed in many B&Bs in Ireland and have never seen a queen size bed in any of them.

I found Queen beds in most but not all of them. However, they book very fast! The problem with the twins pushed together is that they are separate beds (not on the same boxspring), so you have that gap in the middle, which you inevitably fall into!

Yes, doubles are doubles but confirm the actual size(s) available directly with the B&B. Twins will give you more space than a double and are often in a larger room BUT two twins pushed together are not a king. An American king is longer. A queen, if you find it, should also be longer. Our experience has been that at the end of a day of travel we're tired and really don't pay too much attention to the size of the bed.
