We have never been to Ireland. Would love any suggestions/advice. We are interested in the Dublin, Waterford, Cork areas. Any suggestions on places to stay i.e. B&Bs, etc. would be appreciated. Kelli
Can you give us a little more information about your budget, how you intend to get around, your interests, and such so that we can give you more specific answers?
Also, how long do you plan on staying?
We would stay for about a week and a half. We love History, museums, food, cultural aspects. Budget $ on a scale of $, $$, $$$---expensive.
Traveling by bus.....first choice, car last choice.
Suggest you fly into Shannon, rent car, go to Cliffs of Moher, down to Dingle, continue on south eventually towards Kinsale ending up in Dublin for three days or four so can take day trip to Newgrange. No need for car in Dublin. Fly home from Dublin.I know you say car is last choice but it does give you flexibility. Also suggest you skip Waterford, did not find anything interesting there even when they had factory open for glass blowing.
Agree with flying into Shannon and out of Dublin. I think 2 days in Dublin is plenty though. Haven't been to Waterford based on everyone's comments to skip. I found driving to be easy and fun. BUT that wasn't in the summer when there a zillion tour buses. The 2 lane roads are pretty narrow and there are no shoulders. We love being able to stop when we want and driving gives us that freedom. Our favorite place was Dingle. We were referred by people who spend 2 - 3 weeks a year there. AND with good reason. Be sure you do the Slea Head drive. It is amazing. I would highly recommend Lighthouse Bed and Breakdfast. Denis and Mary are awesome! www.lighthousedingle.com For B&B's - try this website - www.bandbireland.com. When you find one you like, look for reviews on tripadvisor.
