Hello - Thank you in advance for your help - We're flying into Dublin (with jet lag) and will be renting a car. (note: I decided to see Dublin at the end of our 3 week British Isle vacation - already booked B&B) We'll have six nights on the front end of our trip and then we will board a ferry in Rosslare to Fishguard. Can you suggest a stop on the way to Dingle that would limit my first day of driving? From there, I thought 2 nights in Dingle and then start heading back towards Rosslare. How close to Rosslare do I need to be to drop off the car & make the ferry? I don't want to find I've misjudged the time it takes to drive from place to place. I appreciate any advice. PS: I'm traveling with my 12 year old son
Good to see you're going for the car Sheri.I would suggest Cork, motorway from Dublin Airport all the way, will get you there in 3 hours, could do detour to Kilkenny or stop off in Cashel/Cahir on the way. Not sure about Rosslare and the dropping off of the car, but Rosslare is a very small place so its unlikely that the car drop will be far from the terminal.
Thank you John ~ I've been reading the other posts, and it is very apparent that driving in Ireland is best done in a relaxed manner. Is there a route along the southern coast that would take us back to Rosslare, or will I need to stay on an inland highway?
It isn't really feasible to use any of the motorways to get from Dingle to Rosslare. There is a reasonably direct cross-country route that will take 5 hours approx. This road will be quite good for the most part, but mostly single lane. Type in Dingle & Rosslare in this website and it will give you the route
