Will be in Dublin 4 days in early August, looking for lodging recommendations either in/very near town center or in nearby suburb on rail line. Small hotel/b&b. Thank you!
harrington hall...used to be mayor's residence...close to st stephens green...a nice walk to grafton st/temple bar...nice area...
We just stayed in May for four days at Albany House, very close to Stephans Greens and Graffton St, we only needed transportation out to Kilmaheim Jail and then walked the way back seeing all the sights.
The Mount Herbert Hotel sits in the quiet Ballsbridge section of the city about 50 meters away from a DART station. Also very close to the Dublin beach. Yes, Dublin has a beach, of sorts...
We stayed at, and I highly recommend the Gate Lodge (http://www.dublingatelodge.com/), an older, but comfy family run guest house with an excellent location and quiet rooms. They serve full Irish breakfast every morning. I believe Rick mentions it in a book or on his show.
Within an easy walk (+/- 30 mins) are: Kilmainham Gaol, Dublin Castle, Guinness Storehouse, St Patrick's, Trinty College, Temple Bar, O'Connel Bridge, Phoenix Park, the Spire of Dublin and more. And its a 5 minute walk to Hueston train station where you can also catch the Luas (tram) to the bus station and most other destinations in the city.
Enjoy your time in Dublin!
The Abbey Hotel is a nice find; we loved it. Centrally located, fairly priced and equipped with a fantastic staff.
Many thanks to everyone who replied. After looking at the options, making a few international phone calls and checking web sites, we booked the Gate Lodge. A combination of price, availability, and location made it our best option. Keep traveling!
I highly recommend the Brooks Hotel. A very nice hotel only a few mins. walk from the Temple Bar Dist. It's not too expensive (as cities in Europe go) & the staff is very friendly & helpful. That's where we'll go back to next time we're in the area!
