Hi everyone! I will be spending 2-3 nights in Dublin in late April and was wondering if you have any advice about nice hostels or B&Bs that will be well located and also inexpensive! I prefer B&Bs over hostels, as they have more charm, but in Dublin I think location and cost will be our primary factors. Please let me know if you have any recommendations!
I highly recommend the Globertrotters Hostel. It shares a registration desk and dining room with a B&B and hostel guests get the same fabulous full Irish breakfast that is served to the B&B guests.
Unless you insist on staying in downtown Dublin, here is an option that worked out well for my wife and I in 2009. Skerries is a small village north of Dublin about 30 km that is on the coast, has a lot of charm, and has easy commuter rail connections to downtown Dublin. We stayed in the Redbank Guesthouse (website is www.redbank.ie) and really enjoyed the stay. I think it can be fairly expensive at the height of the tourist season, but in April you should be able to get a reasonable rate.
Thanks y'all, globetrotters sounds like a possibility. We do want to stay in the city, as close to city center as possible to have easy access around Dublin. Does anyone know of low cost (thinking Dbl rooms around E70-80) bed and breakfasts in Dublin, or will hostels be our best bet?
Grafton Guesthouse has doubles & twins for 84Euro/night and offer a discount of 12% if you are willing to book 3 or more nights. The rates include breakfast. I've stayed here in the past and the location is excellent. Within walking distance to everything a tourist may want to see except Guiness Storehouse & Kilmainham Gaol. The city bus from Dublin Airport also stops right near the front door, but it does take awhile to get there as it stops all over, so you may want to consider taking one of the express coach buses or a taxi if you are in a rush to get to/from airport. Be warned Grafton Guesthouse has no elevator, so if you can't handle stairs or you overpack a suitcase you should know that you might wind up with a room on the 3rd floor.
The Townhouse is the B&B that shares a registration desk with the Globetrotters Hostel. And as I said in my previous post, the full Irish breakfast is fabulous! The Anchor House B&B is right next door and is highly recommended by Lonely Planet.
