Dublin High Tea?

I'm going to be in Dublin on the Sept. 18th tour of Ireland, and I'm hoping to go to a traditional high tea in Dublin before the tour begins. I'm arriving a couple of days early! Thanks!

Shelbourne Hotel or Merrion Hotel. Neither are cheap but both lovely.

Linda, do you want afternoon tea or high tea...there is a big difference. Afternoon tea is...traditionally served between 3-5pm and includes pot of tea, finger sandwiches, scones and pastries.
High tea is....served starting around 6pm and is a full dinner with pot of tea, meats, salads, etc.

I'm thinking of an afternoon tea, from 3 to 5 pm.
Thank you for clarifying the difference for me!!

Oh Linda, you will really enjoy it. Four years later I still dream about the scones and jam and clotted cream I had in London. I've never found jam anywhere near as delicious and, believe me, I've searched!

Linda, And if you find that a proper afternoon tea won't fit into your schedule try Clarinda's Tea Room. It's towards the bottom on the Royal Mile on the left as you face away from The castle. The prices are not bad, the food is really good..(great scones) and the the staff are generally rude. Love it.

2nd Claudia's recommendation for tea at The Merrion when in Dublin. Laurel's suggestion is located in Scotland, not Ireland.

We had tea, which included scones, delicate, yet filling sandwiches, and desserts at the Shelbourne. The tea room was elegant and lovely! The afternoon tea was relaxing and the food was great. They were also able to accommodate my vegetarian preferences. We did make reservations and noticed that the tea room was fully occupied, so I suggest reservations. Also, we asked about proper dress and were told neat attire is requested. We had tea and scones at the Gresham Hotel in Dublin, which was also quite enjoyable. It was a bit fancier than other places we had stopped at for tea while vacationing in Ireland. I remember that the scones were wonderful!
