Dublin for 2 nights - worth it?

Are there enough things to do to make a 2 night stop in Dublin worthwhile? We're doing 4 in London then going to Paris for 6 and thought we might stop in Dublin for 2. Thanks everyone. I love this forum!

That's a tough one. Dublin pales in comparison to London and Paris, but most every city does as those are two of the great cities of the world. You don't say how you're traveling but I'm not sure the trouble and expense of another flight/airport trip would balance out the subtler charms of Dublin. I certainly wouldn't discourage you from seeing Dublin but maybe something reachable by train from London or Paris would be a better choice? If cities are your thing maybe visit York or Edinburgh from London or Brussels or Amsterdam from Paris. Also it would be nice to get a feel for more rural England or France and many smaller places are easily accessible by train for day trips. I often feel that seeing one city - like Dublin - helps me 'get a feel' for a place and makes it easier to go back. If Ireland as a country is on your list then a toe-in-the-water stop in Dublin could well be worth it. If you're just looking for the taste of one additional city on this trip I think there are logistically easier places to see that will fulfill that desire. My $.02US,

Dublin is a worthy stop, but I would not tack it on to this itinerary. Not sure how many days are already booked, but you would be better off tacking on York, Edinburgh, or Bath (and that would be my order of preference). The best of the three is Edinburgh, but I think it's about twice as far from London by train as York. We took the bus directly from Heathrow to Bath in April 2013, and it worked great. We tacked on a side trip to Edinburgh from Dublin on our 2002 Ireland trip, and it was actually pretty easy, though we had three nights in Edinburgh and flying into/out of Dublin is a lot easier that Heathrow. You would use most of the day getting to Dublin, most likely having only a night and one day there. Also be aware though it's a nice town, Dublin is not the best of Ireland.

I am the YES side. I like to bounce around a lot when travelling and have an urge to see it ALL...so please note that. I love Dublin and the amazingly friendly people are reason enough for me to tell you to go! Like other have said you if enjoy it...you can go back for more and see other cities. Convenient airport to fly to, short bus ride to city center.
We could help you more if you gave us why Dublin is on your list...or your interests. Bon voyage!!!

I would not go on to Dublin on this trip. Combine it with a longer trip to Ireland or even Scotland. You will spend a lot of time at the airports and in travel time to and from the airports. You don't say when the 2 night stop in Dublin would be; is it part of the 10 days in London and Paris or an extra 2 days. I would spend my extra 2 days either in Brussels and Bruges if they are indeed extra. If not, look into day trips to castles outside of London or Paris.

The 2 days would be in addition to the 4 in London, 6 in Paris. I do want to do an Ireland trip someday too, the one where you stay in castles and drive to each of them, stopping along the way to see whatever sights suit your fancy. I'm thinking that we will probably not do Dublin this time but wait until we do our Ireland trip. Thanks for all your suggestions.

Diana, I would have to ask, what floats your boat? that may give others more info as to is it worth it. in my opinion, 2 days is a minimum for most cities i travel to. but thats just me. happy trails.

Skip Dublin and extend London. You will waste an entire day just arriving and leaving. We jut got back from London and Ireland, and Dublin would be the last place that I would recommend for an Irish visit.

I wouldn't go that far out of the way for only 2 nights. I agree that time would be better spent in London.
