Has anyone done the dinner/show at the Merry Ploughboys Pub? Or would a Pub Crawl be more fun? I've read that they only visit 2 pubs which isn't really a true "Pub Crawl" like we do in the states!! Thanks for any suggestions.

My wife went to the Merry Ploughboy on an earlier trip and laid down the law that it wasn't worth it when we went together. Plus, I think it's rather a bother to get to - - five miles south of town, maybe? I'd also skip the pub crawl tour. You can just wander/crawl on your own and drop in to what looks good. Essex Street (Temple Bar) has more than enough places and a batch have music.

As previous poster said, go to Temple Bar and wander about. Plenty of pubs to try.

If you are thinking about a pub crawl, I would recommend the Musical Pub Crawl - I really enjoyed it, as it was a great introduction to trad music and the musicians were great! It did only go to three different pubs, but my purpose was for the music and not for the pubs.

I agree with Bonnie. The Musical Pub Crawl is worth doing. Also, please feel free to design your own pub crawl.

Just got back from Ireland and I highly recommend "An Evening of Food, Folklore and Fairies" at the Brazen Head Pub in Dublin. We went because it's the top-rated attraction in Dublin on Trip Advisor. I was afraid it would be sort of hokey, and I was traveling with my 18yr old son, so I was a a little apprehensive, but went anyway based on the Trip Advisor reviews. It was wonderful! The food was good, and Johnny Daly is both informative and entertaining. We went our first night (we had arrived at 5am from the states) and didn't nod off once. The dinner/"show" last from about 7-9:45 and then you can stop downstairs in the pub to listen to some irish music and have a pint or two. The Brazen Head is just a couple blocks out of Temple Bar, an easy walk by the Liffy away. www.irishfolktours.com
