Don't know if this will be of any help but we stayed in a lovely B&B well outside the center of Dublin (the name of which I can no longer recall). When searching the web look for B&B's within walking distance of a train station. We had a car but just left it at the B&B for the three nights we were in Dublin and trained in and out. Greatly expands your options and is generally cheaper.
David,
My wife and I stayed in Dun Laoghaire, a suburb south of Dublin, in May. It is a lovely port town and Dublin is a quick 15 minute train ride away.
There are many nice, reasonably priced B&B's there. We stayed at Ophira House and loved it. John and Cathy gave us a warm welcome. They even loaned us their laptop to help us out of a jam!
Best of luck with your planning.
Enjoy your trip!
