Dublin; a few questions

Headed to Dublin later this week for the first time and my flight back to Italy leaves Sunday morning at 0720. I'm staying in the Temple Bar district. I figure I'll just take a taxi from there to the airport since I have to leave so early...does anyone know roughly what it costs? And is there a better/cheaper alternative? I'm mostly just going for the Notre Dame - Navy football game so I'm only planning about 1-2 days for sightseeing but if anyone has any must-see recommendations feel free to drop em. Also welcome recommendations for good places to eat, particularly good seafood places. Grazie...

A couple of days in Dublin isn't much. Some of my favorite to-do's for Dublin include a Bus Eirenn trip to either Newgrange/Boyne Valley or Glendalough that you can catch from the bus station downtown. In your time frame, I'd probably go with a literary pub crawl. I'm not a fan of the Temple Bar area because the bars are too much like giant bars and not enough like traditional pubs. The nightlife is raucous, I prefer traditional music and conversing with locals.

In which area can one find the more 'traditional' pubs?

Rik, Our family was in Dublin this past June and I believe our taxi fare to the airport was 25-30 euro. There is also an airport bus that's about 10 euro, but I'm not sure on where to catch it. I really liked the Porter House pub in the Temple Bar district. They have a great selection Ales, Lagers, Porters & Stouts. Here's the link to their web site www.porterhousebrewco.com. There's also a literary pub crawl at The Duke's. My daughter took me to her favorite pub Peadar Kearney's (near Dublin Castle). I really enjoyed this pub also.

Last time I was in Dublin was 2004, so this advice may not be terribly accurate anymore. But... There is/was an airport shuttle that stops off near Temple Bar, among other areas. When I visited, it was running early enough that I could catch a 7 AM trans-Atlantic flight. Probably much cheaper than a taxi. I was less than impressed with the Guiness Storehouse. You basically pay to walk through several stories of Guiness adverts, then you get a complementary pint at the top. The view, however, is one of the best in Dublin. I enjoyed some pub called "The Castle", which is/was located right next to... well, Dublin Castle. There was a trad band playing there the night I visited. Whether this was the sort of mythical "trad and locals" Ricknik-fantasy Brad refers to or a For-Tourist-Only performance, I don't know or care. I enjoyed it just the same. Enjoy the game.

We were in Dublin in June. We recommend the hop-on-hop-off bus for a good overview of the city. The Kilaminham Goal (a stop on the tour) is great for Dublin history. For seafood we highly recommend Matt the Thresher, at 31 & 32 Lower Pembroke Street, Dublin 2, Tel: 01 - 676 2980 - voted "best Irish Seafood 2012". Excellent seafood, lovely atmosphere, but you will need reservations. Go Navy, Beat Notre Dame!
