We are picking up our car at Shannon Airport but unsure where the best drop-off location would be: Dublin Airport or Dublin City Centre.
FYI: We'll be arriving in Dublin around noon and spending one night. We'd like to get the car dropped off and checked into our hotel as quickly as possible to allow for a little sight seeing.

Dropping off at the airport might be the best choice, since it would allow you to avoid driving into the city center. All of the car rentals are in close proximity to the airport, and there is good public transportation into town from there.
I can't tell you how much time we wasted driving in Dublin trying to find our hotel. And once we spotted it, we could not get to it with the one way streets. We seriously drove around for another half hour. This was pre-GPS, so maybe that would have helped. But I would avoid driving in Dublin at all costs.
Finding Dublin Airport is pretty simple. Driving in city centre is not. I'd go with dropping off at the airport and taking a bus into town.

If you don't have experience driving over there; consider getting the GPS. I don't use GPS very often but it was so worth it in Ireland.
Agree that driving in Dublin should be avoided. We will never drive there again--as someone said the one way streets will be confusing and the streets change names on every block. The countryside driving was easy even without GPS.
