Hi!
Can anyone tell me what the driving time would be from Shannon Airport to Dingle (where we plan on spending our first night after arriving in Ireland.....?) I also heard that one needs to add about 25% more to any driving estimates because of traffic, construction, sheep!!!! We will be arriving early in the morning after an overnight flight and wonder whether it is reasonable to expect to do that the first day. If not, what would be a good place to spend the night? Many thanks!
Monica
Suggest you go to www.viamichelin.com. They are very reliable as to times, and, if you need a stop, they will have a list of places.
ViaMichelin shows it at 2 hours, 47 minutes, but that is far from accurate time in my experience. To allow for brief stops and narrow roads, add about 25% to that time to get a better idea of how long it will really take. Your flight will probably arrive around 9:00 or so, but by the time you get the paperwork done for your rental car, take the shuttle to the rental place, and get on the road, it will be nearer to 11 or noon. You could see Bunratty Castle, just six miles away, have lunch across the road at the little shopping center, then have plenty of time to get to Dingle before dark.
My wife and flew into Shannon and then stayed at a B&B close to Bunratty Castle. It was a good way to get your bearings and shake off the jet lag. Driving on the left hand side of the road when you're jet lagged is not a good idea. We had dinner that night at Dirty Nellies which is a local tavern and had a great time. We got up the next day and had a relaxing and scenic drive to Dingle.
find a place to stay close by to rest before making that long drive. Stop along the way to eat.,..4 hours
